Blogging For Your Organization
Posted by Aryeh.Landowne on Jun 30, 2009
Now that we have completed our series on article writing its important to think more about blogging. Blogging comes in a number of different forms. The traditional blog is just a richened piece without picture and without video. But in the world of multimedia and high-speed Internet access, blogging has become a multimedia and pictorial experience. When people started blogging, it was all about the person writing. They wrote about their experiences, their day-to-day events and their thoughts on what was going on in their personal life. Then bloggers started writing about more diverse topics that weren’t just about themselves. Bloggers now write their opinions on more serious topics like politics, religion, news, and sports etc., and the industry has now noticed that blogs are more than just a daily journal.
Now it has become easier to upload pictures, so people have started not only writing about their daily experiences, but have also started putting up pictures of their friends, of their family and, of course, of the celebrities they saw on the street. (I saw Bruce Willis yesterday!) Now that we not only have high-speed Internet, we also have webcams, FLIP cameras, digital cameras with video mode and even video capabilities on your cellphone (not to mention Internet on there too), YouTube and other popular video sharing sites have made it possible to make the Vlog (which we will talk about in the future).
The world of blogging has evolved over its short time and out of the personal blog, has come the company blog. Marketing departments at companies, large and small, have started creating blogs as an extension of their own website. As previously written about, the ideal blog for SEO purposes should be separate from your main corporate URL. So regardless of the practices of the past, a company blog should talk about clients, staff, and industry news. Blogging can be helpful for your company because all the content created by your company’s blog is further promoting your organization.
In the coming weeks we will give more tips about blogging and best industry practices and if you have any questions or need help starting up or writing your company blog, please get in touch with us, we’d be happy to guide you on your way. Microsoft Bing: A Worthy Google Competitor?
Posted by Aryeh.Landowne on Jun 22, 2009
Microsoft Bing, formerly known as Live Search, Windows Live Search and MSN Search, was launched on June 3rd, 2009. It is Microsoft’s latest attempt to take some marketshare away from Google search. Google has become the gold standard for Internet searching so therefore instead of reviewing Bing on it’s own, I will instead compare Bing to Google.
Bing has a busier but more elegant homepage compared to Google’s simple search bar. Bing rotates a daily picture of something or somewhere extraordinary. But what we really care about is search. I searched “Salemglobal” in each search engine and the first result was obviously SalemGlobal.com. But that’s where the similarities end; almost all the results are different but still relevant.
One feature that Bing has that is unique is when you hover your mouse over a search result a sidebar pops up with a small text preview of the page as well as common links within the page. So for the SalemGlobal search result the first few lines of text from our homepage pops up as well as links to our services page, our clients page, our contact page and a few others.
What I found strange was the little piece of text underneath each result, which is seemingly random. For example, under the link for SalemGlobal.com there is text from a news post from December 2008 that is about halfway down our homepage. Whereas Google takes the Meta description, the one line of html code that the owner of a site composes to describe their site, and uses that instead. In this case Google’s result is much more relevant.
Overall, Bing is a very clean search engine that has some nice new features of its own as well as some borrowed from Google and Yahoo (the number 1 and 2 ranked search engines). What remains to be seen is if people will start using it but that doesn’t seem likely since there isn’t any one thing that sets it apart from Google or Yahoo.
If you have any questions about how to utilize this new search engine please give SalemGlobal a call at 212-993-5828 or check out our website at http://www.SalemGlobal.com.

Article Writing for Technology Firms
Posted by Edan Shertzer on Jun 16, 2009
“Technology” has become such a multi-faceted term in our day and age, that we don’t blame you for finding our title, “Article Writing for Technology Firms”, to be something of a head-scratcher: many of you are probably thinking — What or who, exactly, should we count as “technology firms”? Are we talking about companies that deal with the Internet (e.g., SalemGlobal)? Companies that do computer and IT supprt? Software development companies? Telecom companies? Perhaps we’re thinking of companies that produce niche technological products such as a voice over IP business phone systems? In a sense, every company that owns and operates a website can lay some claim to being a “technology firm”, right? However, for the purposes of this Tip of the Week, the answer, quite simply, is Yes. “Technology” and “technology firms” encompass all of these different meanings. Luckily, our SEO Tip applies to all of these companies, with no exceptions. (We’re awesome that way….)
When SalemGlobal writes about itself, we choose to focus on one specific keyword term: “website marketing“. Though SalemGlobal offers about 20 specific SEO services that can be used as keywords (for exmaple, “interactive public relations“, or “social networking strategy“), we have chosen to zoom in on “website marketing” as a “low-hanging fruit” term, that is, a term that’s popular but not cut-throat competitive. (Cut-throat competitive terms in this case might be “SEO” or “search engine optimization”, the most general website marketing terms out there.) Now, when you’re thinking of writing an article for your technology firm, our recommendation is that you focus on the “low-hanging fruit” keyword that applies to your products, services, or expertise. To this end: one great way of transforming “high-hanging fruit” keywords into “low-hanging fruit” keywords is to “localize” them by appending them to local geographic terms. Take the aforementioned voice over IP company as an illustration. While this particular technology company is capable of providing its service anywhere in the country, the company would benefit from localizing its keywords to its geographic base of operation: so, instead of the uber-competitive “voiceover IP phones”, this company can write articles that feature “voice over IP phones NY” as prominent, hyperlinked keywords. (Remember, there are five ways of writing New York — “NY”, “NYC”, “New York, “New York City”, and “Manhattan”.) Another great way of obtaining low-hanging fruit keywords is, for lack of a better expression, getting down and dirty with the technospeak. “VoIP” is a ubiqutous and extremely competitive keyword, and our technology firm would have to work extremely hard to rank above a small number of mega tech firms that have monopolized this keyword for years. “small business VoIP phone conferencing“, however, will not prove as difficult to rank for. Thus, an article with the keyword phrase “Small business VoIP phone conferencing” in its title and body would both attract interested customers and add relevant content to the company’s website, eventually elevating its regard in the eyes of those all-desiring, and all-desirable, search engine bots.
Have You Heard of Implantable Contact Lens?
Posted by Edan Shertzer on Jun 9, 2009
Implantable contact lenses or ICLs (also known as phakic intraocular lenses or implantable collamer lenses), are a type of internal corrective lens for the eye. Just like external contact lens, ICLs operate correct the natural shape of the eye’s lens, with the exception that ICLs are surgically inserted into the eye and stay there permanently. There are some big pluses to ICL surgery: for one, ICLs can often correct high refractive errors that LASIK or PRK surgeries simply can’t accomplish. Another advantage over laser surgery is that phakic IOLs do not alter the tissue of the eye, preventing potential damage and infection. Finally, ICL surgery is not only safe, it’s reversible through a minor outpatient procedure.
ICLs are a relatively new surgical option for vision correction, but Dr. Ilan Cohen and his team at the Fifth Avenue Eye Center have pioneered it from the start. In fact, Dr. Cohen was the first eye surgeon in the New York Tri-State area to perform this surgery. Call (866) 731-3937 for more information on the Fifth Avenue Eye Center or to schedule an appointment, and find out whether you are a candidate for ICL.
Article Writing Within Your Industry II
Posted by Aryeh.Landowne on Jun 8, 2009
Last week we talked about the healthcare and law industries. This week we’ll focus on article writing for the auto industry. With the downfall of General Motors (which is completely ironic since Raphi Salem’s father only bought an Oldsmobile for 30 years) it seems like they could have used better Internet Marketing and a lot better technology in order to save themselves. But given the fact that there are over 40 popular car brands in the US, mostly imported, the best thing to do is to promote your brand, your car and even your model, which means the style and the year.
SalemGlobal works with World Hyundai out of Matteson, Illinois, and as you may or may not know, Hyundai itself has 12 different car models. Out of each of these models, there are different production years and different features of these cars. Now a days you can probably get a car in any color you like, with endless additions. Such as, air conditioning, power windows, CD, DVD player, multimedia, leather interior, sunroof, iPod connectivity and built in GPS. As well as driving and safety features like a four, six, or eight cylinder engines, four or two wheel drive, anti-lock breaks and stability control systems as well as security measures like air bags and safety rating tests up the wazoo.
Putting all these topics together you are left with plenty of keywords. So, as a car dealer, you certainly have over 52 potential articles to write about your brand, organization or company and if you need help doing so please give SalemGlobal a call at 212-993-5828 or check out our website at http://www.SalemGlobal.com. Next week we’ll talk about article writing for technology firms.

Article Writing Within Your Industry
Posted by Aryeh.Landowne on Jun 1, 2009
Last week we spoke about article writing as it pertains to the season and the calendar. This week I’d like to focus on some industries that we work with as well as general businesses. First you have to recognize if you are u a “B to B” or a “B to C” company. Obviously a “B to B” is going to have a different message then a “B to C” company. “B to C” companies are dealing mainly with sales or service to one customer at a time. Whereas “B to B” companies are all about lead generation and sales of a usually higher ticket price or higher nature.
If you are in the healthcare/medical industry, your article should be focused on your expertise. SalemGlobal mainly deals with about six types of doctors: dentists, orthodontists, podiatrists, dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and eye doctors/LASIK surgeons. Obviously, your expertise is going to get more defined when you talk about the specific nature of a specific procedure and/or a specific disease, aliment, symptoms, treatment and or cure. One example is a possible article for an orthodontist to write about Invisalign, how the procedure is done, how it compares to traditional braces and what benefits someone would get out of having straighter teeth.
If you are a lawyer, you might be either “B to B”, having individual clients or “B to C”, representing companies and businesses. For example, SalemGobal works with an immigration lawyer; a great article for her would be all about the laws governing immigration, who it applies to, potential costs, as well as ramifications if one does not adhere to the law. There is a movie coming out with Sandra Bullock, where she plays a Canadian citizen whose American visa has expired and at that moment (or at least at that moment of the trailer) she announces her engagement to her assistant. Stay tuned to whether this is a good or bad movie.
Next week we will talk about some more industries and if you have a question or need help writing an article about your business, please get in touch with us, we’d be happy to guide you on your way. Just give us a call at 212-993-5828 or check out our website at http://www.SalemGlobal.com.
