Gay Marriage in NY, Riots In Greece, Online Poker In DC, Federer Loses at Wimbledon To A French Guy: What your business can learn from political winners, sports losers and money

Posted by Salem Global on Jun 29, 2011

Every week we rehash the news here at SalemGlobal Internet but some weeks are infinitely more interesting than others. The whole Hugh Hefner and playboy fiancé Crystal Harris engagement breakoff thing by far beats out most things but that is really out of the ordinary. However, what I am referring to this week is the downfall of Roger Federer. I love what they say at http://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/news/match_reports/2011-06-29/201106291309347177158.html… “Federer is definitely human…” After blowing a lead and losing to a 12th seed Frenchman what else can we say… Kudos and congratulations to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on knocking Federer off of his perch. I am sure this is not the last we will be hearing from either of them.

And since we are talking about Europe, have you been reading about the riots in Greece? Here is a CNN primer of what exactly is going on: http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/europe/06/29/greece.riots.explainer/ Basically, as the old saying goes, “the rich get richer…” But in this case my understanding is that public services will be cut and then on top of that the people will be taxed even more. All in the effort to reign in the debt. Well. All I can say is good luck. Or as we say in French, Bon Chance!

And finally, I think Washington DC, the capital of the United States has the right idea. When all else fails, try to raise money by allowing online gambling! http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/politics/dc-officials-plan-to-allow-internet-based-gambling-at-hot-spots-in-city/2011/04/13/AFbTRHZD_story.html So how do you think President Barack Obama would do at the Texas Holdem Poker Table or perhaps an old fashioned game of Omaha hi low (Pot limit though).

Happy 4th of July everyone. I hope you enjoy the weekend, get to see some fireworks and party responsibly. Besides that, don’t forget the lessons of the week. Even if you are at the top of the search engines like Roger Federer at the top of Tennis mountain, you can still be blown away by the competition. And if you don’t protect yourself with extra links and content, other businesses might take advantage. Do yourself a favor. Take a look at Google analytics, webmaster tools and give SalemGlobal a call for a free consultation. Call Raphi Salem at 212-222-3292 or email him at info@salemglobal.com for more info.

Clarence Clemens, Ryan Dunn, Jackass, Your Grandmother on Facebook, H&H Bagels Closing Down: What you can learn from the saxophone, drunk driving, old age and the best bagels in the world

Posted by Salem Global on Jun 22, 2011

Big Man Clarence Clemons died at a young age of 69 this past week. As the famous saxophonist for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band taught us, you can be a huge star and end out on top. I missed my chance to see the boss play at a concert about 2 years ago and now I have to chalk that one up next to missing out on the Grateful Dead as well. I guess I can always go to a Justin Beiber concert and get the same value – right? http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-quick-20110622,0,7791922.story Oh and while we are at it, here is a clip of Clarence from the classic movie Airplane! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVq4_HhBK8Y

Speaking of people who died this week, I never knew his name but I guess now I do. I guess if you drive drunk then indeed you are a jackass. So good luck to Ryan Dunn and the rest of the jackasses out there who drink and drive. Maybe it will teach us all a lesson? 34 years old and so much more to live for.. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1666021/jackass-ryan-dunn-dead.jhtml

And on the other end of the spectrum, it seems like your grandma just sent me a message that she wants to be my friend on Facebook. AWKWARD! http://mashable.com/2011/06/22/grandparents-social-networking/ . But it makes sense. Older people are living longer so they have more time to kill. Obviously they should waste their time on Facebook… On the other hand, I think South Park got it right in this episode. “Stan. Poke your grandma!” http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/269233/poke-your-grandma

And in the last of the sad news from this week, it seems like $1.50 doesn’t cut it for a bagel anymore. (Remember when you could get a loaf of bread for a nickel?) H&H bagels are closing its upper west side store on 79 street today (or was it yesterday?) Darn – where am I going to get bagels now!?! http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2011/06/21/hhbagels-to-close-on-upper-west-side-manhatta/?blog_id=147&post_id=13434

So what have we learned this week? Play the sax, don’t be a jackass, poke your grandma and find a new bagel place. Of course you might want to blog about all this and post it to your Facebook or twitter account, and that is how you generate more business. Don’t see the connection? I guess you need to hire SalemGlobal to manage your business as well as your personal social media accounts? Call Raphi Salem at 212-222-3292 or email him at info@salemglobal.com for more info. Enjoy the summer… yesterday was the first day…

Dallas Mavericks Beat The Heat, Playboy Hugh Hefner Not Getting Married Again, Gay Granddaughter Outs Grandpa: What your business can learn from sports winners, 85 yr old playboys and acceptance

Posted by Salem Global on Jun 15, 2011

I am really not sure where to start this week. But I guess sex sells so let’s take a look at www.CrystalHarris.com just another beautiful woman from the world of Playboy, Inc. Run by 85 year old Hugh Hefner. I have to say, I am professionally (note the word professional) disappointed that there is no blatant nudity on this website. I mean, if she really was Miss December 2009, there should be some naked pictures right? Well I am not sure if it is related but maybe that’s why they aren’t getting married.

Yes indeed sports fans (Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue fans that is…) For some reason, according to Hef’s twitter account, http://twitter.com/#!/hughhefner it appears that she called it off. And according to website it is confirmed. My theory is very simple. She was in it for the money. He lied to her and said you can have it all when I croak. Well, the wedding was supposed to be this Sunday and the papers weren’t signed sealed or delivered yet. He kept on pushing it off until she finally said, “um, listen you old man. If there is no money in this deal then I am not interested. So he says, ok – how about 10 million or some other very low amount compared to the hundreds of millions he has in the bank. She says no – I want more. He says – I have 4 kids from previous marriages and they deserve it – not you, you 25 year old little girl who would be nothing if it weren’t for me. You would be working at McDonalds or as a prostitute. I am giving you a chance of a lifetime. She said it wasn’t enough and calls it off. So I will leave it up to you my friends. Who is dumb and who is dumber. Well Hello – She obviously is the idiot. Now she won’t get a cent and he will just buy off the next one that comes along that says – I will be your concubine. Done.

By the way, if you are dealing with an older man or a younger woman, you will need to get this app for your iphone: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/f301234b78/the-playboy-app-with-crystal-harris?playlist=featured_videos

Speaking of sex scandals, did you hear that Arnold Schwarzenegger’s lover / mistress Mildred Baena is the one who spilled the beans? http://www.hellomagazine.com/celebrities/201106145607/mildred-baena-arnold-schwarzenegger-lovechild/ Hello magazine got the scoop and obviously paid the most money for the story.

But sometimes we only hear one side of the story. That is why I subscribe to Funny Or Die – To get the full story about Anthony Weiner, check this out: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/cfcad11d17/a-public-statement-from-anthony-weiner-s-penis?rel=player&playlist=featured_videos

I also get my news from another very reliable source. After Robert Diaz’ granddaughter outed him in New York Magazine, http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2011/06/diaz.html , I turned to the Onion News Network for more information on the issue… http://www.theonion.com/video/antigay-senators-horse-affair-caught-on-tape,20707/

Finally, I know some of you are only here for the sports I write about. But you have to admit that sex and politics and idiots are also interesting. After all, inquiring minds want to know… how to market themselves. As for basketball fans everywhere except Miami Florida, please join us at the parade in Dallas to celebrate the Mavericks beating the Heat. It should be fun, but traffic is gonna be tough so be prepared… http://www.star-telegram.com/2011/06/14/3152666/250000-fans-expected-for-dallas.html

Happy Father’s Day everyone. I hope the news stories and scandals above teach us all lessons. Lessons on how to use the media, twitter, youtube and everything else at our simple disposal. I mean the real message here is to keep it in your pants. And if you can’t do that, get paid for it. And if you can’t do that, don’t flaunt it to the world with the click of a mouse. Geez people. Do you really need to hire SalemGlobal to manage your business as well as your personal affairs? Well, ok… but its going to cost you :) Call Raphi Salem at 212-222-3292 or email him at info@salemglobal.com for more info.

Palin & Trump Pizza, Paul Revere Revisited, Edwards, Weiner, Plaxico Buress out of Jail Going to Eagles? Lenny Dykstra: What your business can learn from corruption, fame and fortune

Posted by Salem Global on Jun 7, 2011

So were you at Famiglia Pizza last week when Palin and Trump got together for some pizza?
http://gothamist.com/2011/05/31/sarah_palin_donald_trump_eat_at_fam.php My staff usually goes to the $1.00 a slice on 46th street so we missed it. Oh well. You think they were talking about how fun and cool it would be to be president? Thank goodness both of them have no chance. Oops. Did I really just write that in a public setting on the Internet? YES I DID? Well – I guess if Obama and Bush made it – ANYONE CAN!

Speaking of politicians who don’t just go for the pizza – how about going for the WHOLE PIE?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/john-edwards-indicted-on-campaign-finance-charges-over-payments-to-hide-affair-with-rielle-hunter/2011/06/03/AGF8TMKH_story.html

Come on John Edwards. You were supposed to be the Caucasian front running candidate for the democrats and it turns out you are a filanderer, adulterer and a money squanderer. SO many better things you can do with your life kids – do NOT use Edwards as an example. I guess you just couldn’t keep it in your pants…

Which brings us to our own New York Anthony Weiner who not only can’t keep it in his pants – but has to send it out over twitter to women all over the country. I mean – seriously. Who are these peoples internet consultant. Don’t they know there is a more secure way of sending private picture over the web. Hey – I am Raphi Salem. Here is my card. I have been in the Internet industry since 1996. I am an expert at Reputation Management and social media. Please call me asap at 212-222-3292. But what I like about his is that he isn’t giving up. Ok good luck Oscar Meyer! http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2011/06/06/2011-06-06_rep_anthony_weiner_admits_he_tweeted_crotch_photo_says_he_will_not_step_down_ami.html

Finally – here is a story about someone who didn’t ruin there political career… http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31751_162-20069281-10391697.html Plaxico Buress is out of Jail, out on bail, and thats the way it goes RUH! But will he play professional football ever again… Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe he will go the Lenny Dykstra route and get into drugs and car theft… http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/05/10/lenny-dykstra-claims-he-has-been-tortured-abused-and-otherwise-done-wrong/ Who knows people. Does money and fame corrupt all? I would like to think not.

Well that’s it for today. Seriously, if you are a business owner or a professional, take it from me and from the losers above. Do not do stupid things. We live in a very connected and social media run world. Take a picture of your privates and expect everyone to see it. EZpass and GPS know where you are at all times. You have to work with what we have. There are plenty of advantages and disadvantages to the wired world we live in. But that doesn’t put you above the law like Steven Segal. It just makes you think twice. And maybe someday we will become a more appropriate, moral and better behaved society with not only big brother but also your neighbor watching… Want to know more about how to use social media correctly, get a better reputation online or hide your bad reputation that is ruining your career and life? Call Raphi Salem at 212-222-3292 or email him at info@salemglobal.com .
