Cyber Monday Extended, Google+ Vs. Facebook, Twitter in Kansas, Michael Jackson’s Doctor, Apple Siri, Jets, Giants Lose: What your business can do to increase sales and save face
Posted by Romain Malaganne on Nov 29, 2011
Let me start off today with a quote from Dick Jauron (defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League) – courtesy of Successories motivational posters: http://bit.ly/u28isL
“I believe (the NFL) is the best sports league in the world and it has the most passionate fans. Every place is a little distinct in their passion and when you lose, they’re going to let you know. The bottom line for us is working as hard as you can, working together, and working to create a winner again. We do that and the fans will be passionate in a positive way.”
It’s funny to be inNew Yorkwith all of our sports teams. Whether they win or lose, it’s definitely NOT how they play the game. Because the fact is that if they lose, fans care. And that is passion. So don’t worry about selling tickets to your sporting events. Plenty of people will pay for a seat in a football stadium. Just exist!
However, if you are a sensitive nation and a politically correct National Football League, then don’t celebrate a touchdown by acting like a JET and then crashing and burning. Some people might get offended or insulted and think you are talking about 9-11 when you are just referring to getting a touchdown. And if you want to make fun of Plaxico Burress shooting himself, that’s another story: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-jets-johnsonsantics
So now let’s say that you score a touchdown or are offended by a celebration. Well, the main thing we do in 2011 is tweet about it. http://fox4kc.com/2011/11/28/social-media-experts-talk-twitter/. In this particular instance though, some high school student tweeted that the Governor of Kansas sucks. Well, good for the student for expressing her freedom of speech. And even better for theKansasgovernor for having a staff that monitors social media. Apparently the staff asked for an apology but then rescinded the request and now the Governor is apologizing. I can totally see how this thing got out of hand. Literally a he said/she said situation. So the Governor’s staff thought they were doing the right thing by demanding an apology. The better thing would’ve been to embrace the Twitter remarks and make her even more of a public figure by asking her publicly how he can be a BETTER governor. Even though the situation was blown out of proportion, it proved to be a fantastic news media lesson. When kids are telling you you suck, try to change. After all, kids today, constituents tomorrow.
And along the lines of news media, guess which Internet company is going public with a valuation of $10 billion dollars? http://mashable.com/2011/11/29/facebook-april-ipo-att-t-cyber-monday-youtube/ That’s right folks. That’s BILLIONS with a “B”! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJR1H5tf5wE) I am glad Marc Zuckerberg didn’t take my advice a few years back when I told him to take the money and run! (http://www.raphisalem.com/microsoft-offers-446b-for-yahoo)
But if you ever lose a camera while on a boat and use social media to find the owner, then you will think that Google+ beats out Facebook.https://plus.google.com/104277202662943073951/posts/MH4ZjS8fi2q. I can’t argue that Google+ worked better in THIS case, but overall I am still a fan of Facebook when it comes to social media. Maybe Google+ should be renamed Google Lost and Found? http://shine.yahoo.com/work-money/camera-lost-sea-returned-help-social-networking-215800650.html
I love the fact that Black Friday has turned into Cyber Monday which has turned into Cyber Week, Cyber Month and Cyber all the time! It just goes to show you that retailers with Brick and Mortar MUST have an internet strategy. You can simply make a greater profit from online sales due to the fact that with no overhead and employees dealing with a retail crowd, you can offer discounts and get people to buy without human interaction. Sure, it is a challenge for people who need to look at and feel a product before they make a purchase, but for things you already know you want, there is no substitute. http://www.upi.com/Business_News/2011/11/29/Retailers-extend-Cyber-Monday-throughout-week/UPI-89471322557200/
And if you are one of those millions of Apple and iPod and iPad users and you haven’t seen this Siri video: http://www.collegehumor.com/video/6648229/siri-argument or http://www.informationweek.com/news/telecom/unified_communications/232200265
Lastly, bad news of the week, Michael Jackson’s doctor might have wanted to get a second opinion. Apparently, he did something wrong or was wrongfully accused (not starring Leslie Nielsen). Conrad Murray faces up to 4 years in jail for what he did or didn’t do. Michael Jackson may have been one of the greatest entertainers of his generation and the King of Pop, but he was surely challenged to live in this world! http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1675011/conrad-murray-sentencing-today.jhtml
So what does it all mean? It means that there is only 25 days left until Christmas. It means you need to get your website back up and running. Or make those edits. Happy Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Yahoo, Google Algorithm & Display Changes, Parades, Pies and Football: What your business can do to show gratitude and get promotion
Posted by Romain Malaganne on Nov 23, 2011
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Before I begin, let me repeat this comment that has been going around facebook for the past few days: I can’t find the people specifically so I did a search and got this:
“If you are reading this, it means you have enough education so that you can read and you have a computer or access to a computer and the internet. Chances are you also have sufficient protection from the elements, you’ve had at least one good meal today and you have enough clothing to keep you warm.”
Makes me think of Abe Maslow’s hierarchy of needs… food, shelter, clothing first… then you can move higher up on the intellectual and happiness scale. It’s hard to be happy when you are hungry and cold. You need to get comfort first before you can move on to making your life better. Some people are motivated by this; some people are depressed by it. Hopefully we are all motivated to seek better lives. And hopefully we are blessed by the powers that be and the powers and the universe in which you believe.
So on this Thanksgiving, (and every Thanksgiving and every day for that matter), let’s count our blessings instead of complaining about what we don’t have. And by the way, if you don’t have those things, what can you do to move yourself towards having those things?
Please visit http://www.successories.com/iquote/keywords/15958c95c2d99b9126ca. Get a “thankful” quote on a motivational poster for your office!
Personally, as a (I would like to think) well-rounded and well-grounded individual living in the USA, I like Wednesday Addams view of Thanksgiving inAmerica:
As a vegetarian I am sort of NOT happy about these statistics: http://www.infoplease.com/spot/tgturkeyfacts.html
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 45 million turkeys are cooked and eaten in theU.S.on Thanksgiving. Ewww and Yuck!
I much prefer these vegan recipes: http://www.sunset.com/food-wine/kitchen-assistant/vegan-side-dishes-00418000073746/
Thanks to my favorite food writer for pointing these out: http://adeenasussman.com/ (Also check out her pie baking skills to raise money for cancer awareness for http://www.sharsheret.org/blog/768/third-annual-pies-prevention-thanksgiving-bake-sale)
Thanks also to my favorite fake turkey food company for existing: http://tofurkey.com/
And if you do eat turkey and I haven’t converted you and you live near a Safeway, you must check out this hilarious video: http://www.youtube.com/user/SafewayInc?v=rZd3Xzr5tgI&feature=pyv&ad=
Thanksgiving also means great deals for shopping. In the real world it’s called “Black Friday.” When allof the business world reminds consumers that Christmas is coming soon and you should buy stuff for yourself, your home, your family, your friends and your colleagues.
Check out the #1 for “Black Friday”
http://bfads.net – good for you. You just got a link from me I know I need to buy some stuff. Thanks!
Online we have “Cyber Monday,” the Monday after Black Friday when anything that wasn’t sold in the store goes online. But the truth is you can start buying things at a discount today. But Cyber-Monday sounds cool anyway.
Thanksgiving also means football for you real men and women out there. The #1 search for “thanksgiving football guide” is
If you are in NYC, check out the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Lots of fun. This year I hear high winds might keep the balloons grounded. I hope not.
As you can see, there is a lot to be thankful for. What can your business do to take advantage of this holiday season? Definitely have a Black Friday sale. Also have a Cyber Monday sale. Have an end of year sale. Unfortunately, Google and Yahoo have changed their search algorithms and page displays. They are trying to make more money and you really can’t blame them, can you? For a history of the Yahoo! display, check out: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/yahoo-sunsets-site-explorer-a-eulogy.
SalemGlobal can help you with your online marketing. But it takes time and effort. Right now you should be thinking short term regarding the holidays and New Year. But you also need to think about Black Friday and next year one year in advance. Want to meet face to face? Want to know more about internet marketing and strategy? Call Raphi Salem at SalemGlobal Internet Website Marketing and Lead Generation today at 212-222-3292 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org. Let’s come up with a Thanksgiving story for you! Louie CK, Joe Paterno, Obama In Hawaii, OWS Out Of Zuccotti Park, Veterans Day, Diaspora Vs. Facebook, NY Xpo: What your business can do to turn around in 2012
Posted by Agathe Ducourau on Nov 16, 2011
Before anything, I just want to give a shout out to Louie C.K. Comedian and divorced father of 2. www.hulu.com/louie A friend of mine told me about the show and since I don’t watch TV because I don’t want to pay for cable, I simply watch it online. So thank you Louie for entertaining me. Hulu for broadcasting. And the Internet for making my life awesome!
Barack Obama was in Hawaii earlier this week campaigning, talking and raising money. Obama sort of grew up inHawaii. There is some debate about this but he does call it his hometown and did raise some funds from the locals. Nice weather. Good surfing. He claims that everything he did to get into office and then everything he has done for the past 4 years leads him up to his second term. So are we to believe that the previous administration messed things up so bad that it took four years to get out of the hole, and we will only start to see good things and “change” happen in the next 4 years? That’s going to be a hard sell but I guess we will see what happens. What is your opinion? http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/obama-hitting-campaign-trail-amid-pacific-rim-summitry-and-pushing-congress-debt-committee/2011/11/14/gIQAMFv8JN_story.html
Joe Paterno was fired from his position at Penn State after 46 years amidst scandal. This just sucks for everyone involved. I can’t tell you too much but I can tell you to read all about it. I know what we can learn from it though. Steer clear of bad behavior and don’t look the other way, but RUN as fast as you can from bad karma. Do the right thing every time and you will have a long and healthy good life. Of course you can apply this to your business. Why not? http://www.gopsusports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/paterno_joe00.html
So the debate rambles on whether the “Occupy Wall Street” campaign is really accomplishing anything. I personally don’t think so. I know it has hurt business downtown but I also know that it got a lot of media and press coverage. I think its time to go home and get a job now that Mayor Bloomberg escorted them out of Zuccotti Park. It was illegal for them to be there in the first place. If you want to protest, take it to the street. Don’t settle in the park. That’s not your property! And I will repeat this over and over again. If you don’t have a job then create one. I will never forget President Ronald Reagan showing off newspaper classifieds of hundreds of jobs. Most are low paying and most are in sales, but as in one of the Louie episodes I was watching earlier tonight, the universe and the world owe you NOTHING! So stop complaining and start contributing! http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/johncassidy/2011/11/after-zuccotti-park-what-now-for-occupy-wall-street.html
I just found out that some dude created a social networking website called “Diaspora.” https://joindiaspora.com/ has a rest in peace Ilya Zhitomirskiy 1989-2011 on its homepage. I know nothing about it but if you want people to come to your site I guess change the world (like Steve Jobs) and people will google your name and go to your site. (As a side note, I am not incorporating this into my Internet marketing strategy…)
Lastly. Thank you to all the Veteran’s that have served in the armed forces to protect freedom and liberty and justice for all. My father was a veteran as was my grandfather. Yes I served in the military and defended democracy and freedom. So if you celebrate, Happy Veteran’s Day to you and yours. If you are looking to honor someone with a Veteran’s Day Poster, check out: http://www.successories.com/iquote/1082882/every-day-is-veterans-day-at-the-fort-taber-military-museum-were-telling-the-story-of-many-veteran

Singles Travel Service a New York Based Tour Operators announces new web site offering ski tours specifically for singles
Posted by Romain Malaganne on Nov 10, 2011
November 6, 2007, New York, N.Y. – Singles Travel Service one of the nation’s largest tour operators specializing in hosted singles vacations announced the launch of www.singlesski.com a web site dedicated to ski & snowboard tours for singles only.
Mark Braunstein, President of Singles Travel Service said our new site will offer singles and solo traveling skiers a new type of vacation opportunity. With our service instead of having to “go it alone” singles skiers & snowboarders will be able to sign up and join our pre-organized singles groups. Many of the most interesting resorts are not really single friendly lacking amenities important to solo travelling singles.
Our ski program offers guests a fully hosted experience which starts with roommate matching, group dining for all meals, après ski parties, and a ski partner matching so you always have other skiers to go out with each day. This is the ideal package for the singles skier who desires to try new resorts and mountains but would prefer to travel in company of other singles rather than having to go it alone.
Singles Travel Service a leading tour operator www.singlestravelservice.com has been organizing singles group tours for past 5 years and markets primarily through travel agencies and a large array of partner web sites such as dating services; singles sports leagues, event sites and internet magazines. Our web site allows guests to view vacation package details, view pictures from past trips, and of course register and pay.
NYC Marathon, Andy Rooney, Joe Frazier, NY Jets/ Giants Win, Kim Kardashian, Kris Humphries: What your business can do to endure a lifetime!
Posted by Romain Malaganne on Nov 9, 2011
Endurance. Passion. Desire. All 3 of these things and many more can be used to describe the things you need to run a marathon. This past Sunday 11-6-11 was the running of the 41st NYC Marathon. I have run five nyc marathons in the past and I have been proud of my accomplishments. (You can look at my times here: http://web2.nyrrc.org/cgi-bin/start.cgi/mar-programs/archive/archive_search.html) I did not win the marathon btw. Geoffrey Mutai ofKenyawon with a time of 2:05:05. But I did win a free after-party and dinner invitation. Thanks Oren Adler of www.adlercocpa.com/ Of course my proudest moment in my running history was when I crossed the finish line in under 4 hours. For a leisure average runner, that is usually the goal. But the truth is that just finishing is really an accomplishment. But you can break that down even more. Just putting on your running shoes and getting out for 1 mile or 2 or 6 or 10 is an accomplishment.
What I have discovered about long distance running is that endurance is a challenge. But once you achieve it, you feel amazing…
There are many things in our lives and in our businesses that we can be proud of. Just starting up a business is something to be proud of. Most businesses fail within their first year. Then more fail within the next 2 – 5 years. But it takes something special that keeps a business going for so many years.
2012 will be my 15th year in business. I am proud of that accomplishment not only because it pays my bills and puts food on my table, but also because it says something about me and about my products and services. It says that I am a (hopefully you think) decent and honest salesperson and that I have a worthwhile product and service.
Internet marketing and the internet have not always had the best reputation. Of course the darlings of wall street thought that the Internet was revolutionizing the world and in the 90′s the banks were giving away money like it was air and water. But then the evil crash came down in 2001 and people started realizing that just because it says “internet” doesn’t mean that it’s going to help people socially or physically lead better or more meaningful lives. Nor did it mean that it would help make investors money. Sometimes it was just a good idea that wouldn’t help so many people. Maybe it would help one person… but that is not a business model. YOUR business deserves all the help and recognition it can get. So if you are in business, reward yourself with a poster about endurance. Check this out: Are you familiar with the famous Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton? He was the captain of a boat engulfed with ice. The whole crew of dozens of men almost died but they endured the coldest of winters and survived. The story gets even more fascinating when you break it down into their rescue and their 3 man team that navigated high seas, hiked over glaciers and survived the wild without food shelter or clothing suited for the climate or the challenge. Even today people challenge themselves with Shackleton’s endurance feats with better clothing to survive the elements as well as power bars and energy drinks. It’s almost a joke when you compare doing the things he did over 100 years ago to now. Read the book and see the documentaries. They will amaze you.
Oh and if you want an “endurance” database of quotes: http://www.successories.com/iquote/keywords/e23fe957ac324113e695 What is your favorite?
Speaking of enduring personalities, Rest in Peace, Boxer champion Joe Frazier and Andy Rooney of CBS Television fame. I will never forget your 60 seconds of wisdom on 60 minutes. I will also never forget the Joe Piscopo Saturday Night Live skits making fun of you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKvHH07IUH8… Here is Andy answering his mail: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSWlDSyCe2s&feature=related
Lastly, besides running, in other sports news the NY Jets won but the NY Giants pulled off one of their best games in the past 20 years… At least that’s what I read somewhere. So while you were all on your asses drinking beer watching the game, I was running through the boroughs of NYC! And lastly lastly, NBA basketball star Kris Humphries is no longer married to Kim Kardashian after 72 days… What is so funny about this situation is that they could’ve just dated for a lot less money. I read that their wedding cost something like Ten million dollars. Hopefully the ring artist, designer and manufacturer made money. And hopefully the caterer, the catering hall, the wedding planner, the photographer, the video guy, the bartenders and the florist all were found through website marketing and search engine optimization. Amen
Motivation for the NYC marathon or anything else that you do doesn’t have to stop at the finish line… Look at http://www.Successories.com and buy something! Obama OK. St. Louis Cardinals Win World Series, Snow Kidding, Halloween, Giants Win One: What your business can learn from being the underdog and surprise storms
Posted by Romain Malaganne on Nov 1, 2011
I don’t know where you were on Saturday but I was at my window looking out and pinching myself at the same time. I just could not believe that I was actually seeing snow in October. As the temperature was dropping and the snow was falling, I then heard a loud sound coming from my next door neighbor. Seems like the snow was so wet and heavy that after gathering on the awning, the weight was just too much and it fell into the backyard. Seems like that wasn’t the only structure to fall down. It seems like in my old backyard (central park, NYC) over 1000 trees actually fell.
Crazy weather or not. Global warming or not. Whatever you want to say about glaciers and snowcaps melting, the fact is that I have never ever in my 40 years of life experienced trees falling down due to bad weather. Growing up in the Tundra of Long Island, we got plenty of snow. Every few years would be fun and games and sledding and ice-skating. And then I discovered skiing. But with all of that snow up inVermontwhere I became a black diamond skier, there were never trees that would fall down in backyards. So what can you do? Basically, be prepared.
Being prepared is all you can do. So if we are talking about your business, then the best thing to do is have a highly optimized search engine friendly website. Then the next thing you can do is purchase the best domain names out their for your business. Then you can build up on those domain names and get google and the other search engines to recognize you. Then social media, Interactive PR, youtube videos. Actually, I have a whole entire annual program that puts your business on the map. But the fact is that it comes down to being prepared.
Just a quick thing about Halloween. Did you get any candy? My kids did. And I benefited. Yum. Oh – and did you see googles pumpkin carving video? Here it is: Weird. I don’t see how many views: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPAa7BqgSbw Do you?
And finally – congrats to the 2011 Winners of the MLB World Series. TheSt. LouisCardinals. Oh – and President Barack Obama who after quitting smoking is a pretty healthy guy. And to the NY Giants for finally winning one for us New Yorkers. Good luck to the J-E-T-S next week as well.
