Michael had a great Friday afternoon lunch with  David Steinmetz a few weeks ago.  It was a good chance to talk not just about stones, but about business, marketing and life.

Diamonds

The symbol of love, romance and beauty. 

Diamonds are the most brilliant gem and hardest substance known to man. Only a diamond can scratch or cut another diamond. Diamonds were formed from carbon hundreds of thousand of years ago near the center of earth and through eternity making the journey all the way to the surface. Then man takes it in its rough form and works to bring out its inner beauty and brilliance. Is it a wonder that through eternity it’s been the symbol of love and romance?

Over the past decade attempts have been made to put diamonds characteristics based lab reports into specific grading categories. This attempt to make it more like a commodity help consumers make a price comparisons. What it does not take into account is the unique characteristics of every single diamond. It’s pure and incomparable beauty and brilliance. Categorization and price alone cannot reflect its full value.
