Gay Marriage in NY, Riots In Greece, Online Poker In DC, Federer Loses at Wimbledon To A French Guy: What your business can learn from political winners, sports losers and money

Every week we r
ehash the news here at SalemGlobal Internet but some weeks are infinitely more interesting than others. The whole Hugh Hefner and playboy fiancé Crystal Harris engagement breakoff thing by far beats out most things but that is really out of the ordinary. However, what I am referring to this week is the downfall of Roger Federer. I love what they say at http://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/news/match_reports/2011-06-29/201106291309347177158.html… “Federer is definitely human…” After blowing a lead and losing to a 12th seed Frenchman what else can we say… Kudos and congratulations to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on knocking Federer off of his perch. I am sure this is not the last we will be hearing from either of them.
And since we are talking about Europe, have you been reading about the riots in Greece? Here is a CNN primer of what exactly is going on: http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/europe/06/29/greece.riots.explainer/ Basically, as the old saying goes, “the rich get richer…” But in this case my understanding is that public services will be cut and then on top of that the people will be taxed even more. All in the effort to reign in the debt. Well. All I can say is good luck. Or as we say in French, Bon Chance!
And finally, I think Washington DC, the capital of the United States has the right idea. When all else fails, try to raise money by allowing online gambling! http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/politics/dc-officials-plan-to-allow-internet-based-gambling-at-hot-spots-in-city/2011/04/13/AFbTRHZD_story.html So how do you think President Barack Obama would do at the Texas Holdem Poker Table or perhaps an old fashioned game of Omaha hi low (Pot limit though).
Happy 4th of July everyone. I hope you enjoy the weekend, get to see some fireworks and party responsibly. Besides that, don’t forget the lessons of the week. Even if you are at the top of the search engines like Roger Federer at the top of Tennis mountain, you can still be blown away by the competition. And if you don’t protect yourself with extra links and content, other businesses might take advantage. Do yourself a favor.
