“After witnessing such a great turnout for our January seminar, I knew we were on to something” said internationally renowned marketing expert Raphi Salem in announcing the continuation of his free NYC based website marketing seminar.
“January’s seminar showed us that there is a demand for this sort of service and education,” Salem said. “With the IPO of Facebook during the last month, more and more people want to know about how to get online, how to market themselves and how to jump on the social media train.”
To give local businesses, organizations and professionals the power they need to jump start their online knowledge, SalemGlobal Internet is continuing to offer free marketing seminars in midtown Manhattan. The next seminar will be hosted by AXA Advisors at 1290 Avenue of the Americas on Thursday March 1, 2012. 8:30-10am. To RSVP please contact info@salemglobal.com. These seminars will teach anyone the fundamentals of website marketing with the goal of motivating businesses to start promoting themselves online and professionals how to do it themselves. The SalemGlobal Internet Website Marketing Seminar Series will focus on how to buy strategic domain names, where to host a website, how to write and upload content to a website, develop a linking strategy, conduct keyword research, implement meta data, write articles, construct and distribute interactive press releases, produce online videos (Youtube), use social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), generate leads from Google, Bing and Yahoo local listings and pay per click advertising (PPC).
“My seminars have really helped a large number of small businesses and professionals by giving them an edge over their competition and other job candidates.” Salem said. “In a matter of an hour, any professional can learn the fundamentals of getting online and marketing their organization on the world wide web.”
Salem is reaching out to local businesses and professionals in the healthcare, real estate, auto, insurance and financial sectors, but of course all are welcome. In the past even other marketing and advertising agencies and firms have taken advantage of these free seminars. Happy Holidays! Happy Chanuka.com! Happy New Year! Google 2011, Tom Brady, Tim Tebow, Kim Jong Il, Vaclav Havel, Monkey on Dog, Runaway Golf Cart, FedEx Delivery Gone Bad
Posted by Avi Jonas on Dec 21, 2011
Let’s start out with some fun shall we?
First and foremost, I want to send a shout out to an old buddy of mine (Larry Kunofsky) who is a playwright and has a performance going on at The Monkey, 37 West 26th Street. http://www.purplerep.com/ – The Myths We Need – or – How To Begin. Awesome show! See it ASAP!
And now on to football…
It seems that before Tom Brady stopped Tim Tebow in his tracks this past Sunday, ESPN decided to create this very cool autotune song about Tebow “All He Does Is Win.” Here it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMK9FKMG3Nc
And if you feel like it’s Tebow Time check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc8bp4jsgKI&feature=related
And then Saturday Night Live made this skit about Jesus basically being the cause for all of the Broncos wins: http://www.hulu.com/watch/311565/saturday-night-live-tebow
But then Pat Robertson got involved and blasts the ‘SNL’/Tim Tebow skit as an act of ‘bigotry.’ By the way, you must read the comments on this page. God fearing people vs. atheists. I call it a tie. Perfect after my last week’s post of the Rick Perry video: http://aol.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2011-12-20/pat-robertson-blasts-snltim-tebow-skit-as-act-of-bigotry#ixzz1h94rL5rv
And since we are talking about religion and politics, we should acknowledge the death of Kim Jong Il of North Korea this week. But we should also thank Matt Parker and Trey Stone for their most excellent movie “Team America” in which they portray Kim Jong Il as not the nicest of dictators in recent history. Here’s the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TEvacFETvM And here is Hans Blix of the United Nations acknowledging the spoof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHZYtSfJB74&feature=related
Prior to this week I really didn’t know who Vaclav Havel was. And now I do. Because he died. Vaclav Havel was a Czech playwright (yes – just like Larry Kunofsky, but not the Czech part…), essayist, poet, dissident and politician. A Nobel Peace Prize nominee, he was the Last President of Czechoslovakia and First President of the Czech Republic. http://www.vaclavhavel.cz/index.php?setln=2
Ok. Back to football…
Videos of the week:
Runaway golf cart: http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=CFlq3ExfbT4
Monkey on Dog during halftime: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ2jwqhNtCI
Lastly, ever order something to be delivered by FedEx and it arrives broken? Apparently some dude has a surveillance camera and caught his monitor being flipped over a fence. Apparently this guy was hard to find because he didn’t have a tracking code. Seriously. FedEx announced that they will “look for him.” You mean you can’t ID him on camera? Or maybe it’s just a matter of time. I guess he will lose his job but at least we all got some laughs out of it. I can just see it now. “Sir, I understand you are looking for a new job. What happened to your career at FedEx?” “Well. Um. If we can just login in to YouTube I can explain everything. Honest mistake. Won’t happen again. I mean the monitor literally SLIPPED out of my hands and over the fence.” Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKUDTPbDhnA
Now even though there MIGHT be some backlash against FedEx and people might trust UPS delivery to be safer, this is completely great for FedEx in terms of “bad PR is better than NO PR.” Remember this spoof of a Gatorade commercial? It was such a farce that it never aired. I think it’s awesome! And would’ve gotten some positive feedback: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmSZwj4q3Lc&feature=related

How to Script Your Online Video
Posted by Salem Global on Nov 3, 2009
Last week we spoke about the importance of using online video to promote your business. “But Raphi,” you say. “YOU are a natural. How can I become an Internet celebrity? I am too shy.”
Ok. Ok. I hear you. True, I am not shy. True I have a high self-esteem. True, I own a flip cam. But also true is that I know my business cold and inside-out. I can talk website marketing and strategy with the best of them. So I believe I am a true expert and authority in my field. In conclusion, I have the confidence to not only say what I know, but also to present myself.
YOU TOO should be an expert in your field. I don’t care whether you are a doctor or lawyer or business owner. If you AREN’T an expert in your field, no one is going to hire you anyway. So there is no assumption in our working together. Now that we have established that you are a knowledgeable and expert competent professional in your field, all we need is a script.
Ready? Ok. Here we go…
Introduction
Bio
Staff
Office
History of Industry/Field
Our services (how many services do you perform? We have 20 in the field of website marketing. But each service has many different components. So just as an example, today we are talking about online video. Scripting an online video is different from talking about online video. So now I have 2 blog posts within 1 category. Of course there are going to be MANY different examples of services and sub-services. Each one of those components gets a video.)
Tips for… Keeping a clean office…. Staying compliant with the IRS…. Keeping your teeth and gums healthy…
The above is a great strategy for you and your business. There are 52 weeks in a year. After the 52 videos and blog posts you should repeat what you did last year.
Next week we will revisit PPC (pay-per-click) for your business. The holidays are coming. That means you need to act now. Not only for the long term. But right now. If you want to know more about website marketing, video or anything related to making money on the web, give us a call at 212-993-5828, email at raphis@salemglobal.com or check out www.SalemGlobal.com. How to use YouTube and Online Video for your Business
Posted by Salem Global on Nov 2, 2009
I frequently tell people that I have over 200 videos on YouTube. But I am not telling the truth… I actually have MANY MORE than 200 videos but even more on other online video sharing and distribution websites. Perhaps you have heard of Google and Yahoo? Did you know that they have their own video sites as well? And then there are the lesser known video sites like FUNNYorDIE.com, a website supported by Will Ferrell and Judd Apatow (FunnyorDie). But for you and your business, you will want to check out Tubemogul.com. From here you can upload 1 video to several dozen video sharing websites. That means that with 1 video you are able to reach the people who aren’t hanging out on YouTube all day. And that means that your video aka your “business commercial may be seen by not just millions, but BILLIONS! But wait – there’s more. If you act now, we will also tell you about the fact that each of these video sharing sites also come with tags and links that are extremely valuable to your online presence.
If you have been paying attention for the last 2 years of my blog posts and newsletters, the most relevant results at the top of the search engines for your keywords will be the most popular and authoritative sites. To be the most popular, you need to have INbound links to your website. Videos are another way to get those links.
And if you act now and call me, I will even throw in a full year subscription to my newest video here: Salem Global Internet Marketing Videos
In all seriousness, in addition to the links, you never know WHO is going to be watching your video. And don’t make it all Steven Spielberg and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on your video shoot. Get a flip cam like we do and use a Mac or Windows, and Adobe or Pinnacle software to edit your video. Have your kids do it. An intern. Create a library of videos. Become not only the wordsmith authority on the internet for your industry, become the video authority as well. Tell people who you are, what you do and what procedures you perform. What services your company has. What products you sell.
If you want to know more about me, my company, and my videos, check out our YouTube channel: Youtube. And if you want know more about internet marketing, call me 212-993-5828, email me raphis@salemglobal.com or visit my website at www.SalemGlobal.com. Next week we will get more into videos, what you should say, how you should act and some directors and producers tips.
Producing a Video For Your Legal Practice or Law Firm
Posted by Salem Global on Aug 11, 2009
Last week we spoke about Doctors who have a patient-doctor confidentiality silent agreement. If I am not mistaken, I believe there is also a lawyer-client confidentiality agreement that might even be binding. I am not a doctor or a lawyer so PLEASE do not use this blog post without a little more legal research. As a marketer though, and as a small business owner, what I have learned from my experiences with lawyers working with them as clients AND vendors, that the rules of marketing your legal practice differ from any other profession.
Lawyers, (like doctors) usually have a specialty. There are general business lawyers, divorce and matrimonial attorneys, litigators, traffic lawyers, wills, trusts and estate attorneys, immigration lawyers, real estate lawyers, personal injury attorneys, employment attorneys, bankruptcy lawyers, entertainment lawyers, intellectual property lawyers and the list goes on. From my understanding, lawyers are allowed to advertise but they must indicate that they are advertising in the advertisement. In addition, they may not tell the world that they are specialists or are experts in a certain field.
Lawyers (like doctors) can be know-it-alls and they could have graduated at the top of their classes. They can be the smartest people in the world and the most skilled practitioners. But if they don’t market themselves and let the world know that they exist, they might lose out on the great potential of their practice and lose out on getting more business.
Funny thing is that we all think that lawyers have it made. You figure lawyers go to law school, graduate, make 100k, get raises, become partner, then make millions. But, unfortunately for lawyers this simply is not true at all. Lawyers really have to work in order to make that 100k and million. And in a bad economy, the trickle down factor works against lawyers as well.
Some lawyers are very skilled in their profession, but they are simply shy and a bit introverted. It’s not that they aren’t friendly, its just they don’t love to promote themselves. You don’t have to be outgoing to be able to read and draft very boring legalese. So today’s tip of the week is for that lawyer who needs a bit of a push onto the camera in front of the audience.
First, always start off that this is legal advertising. Then, you can do a monologue. The camera focuses on the lawyer and he or she introduces him/herself to the audience. She/he then introduces his/her practice, office and staff. Then they speak about the services his/her office offers. Then there is preparation before seeing a lawyer and what someone can do; gathering important documents, materials and papers i.e. birth certificates, business documents, deeds etc. In addition, to the monologue, there is also the “interview” where someone interviews the lawyer and asks them questions and he/she answers. Always have a disclaimer that nothing someone sees in a video online can be constituted as “legal advice,” and that if you DO need legal advice, you should seek out a professional. With these types of videos, you can certainly push out 52 videos in a year. Then next year – repeat the process. I guarantee it is all worth it!
There is a logical step to producing videos with anyone in any profession. If you need help thinking about, creating, directing and / or producing a video for your practice or profession, please send me an email, give me a call or check out SalemGlobal.com. Next week we will talk about general expectations for organizations seeking help with their online marketing efforts.
Producing a Video For Your Medical Practice or Vlogging for Doctors
Posted by Salem Global on Aug 4, 2009
Doctors not only need to have a specialty, they also need to have a good “bedside manner.” If you had to choose between the doctor that smiled all of the time vs. the doctor who never smiled, obviously you would go with the one with the friendly disposition. Doctors can be know-it-alls and they can be geniuses. They can be the smartest people in the world, the most skilled surgeons and have graduated at the top of their class. But if they don’t market themselves and let the world know how great they are, they might lose out on the great potential of their practice and lose out on helping as many people as possible.
The same holds true for the doctor in front of the camera. Doctors, just like anyone else, need to smile and show their friendly and warm regard through the lens.
Now you might say that some doctors are very skilled in their profession, but they are simply shy and a bit introverted. It’s not that they aren’t friendly, it’s just they don’t love to promote themselves. So today’s tip of the week is for that doctor who needs a bit of a push onto the camera in front of the audience.
In this economy believe it or not, people are actually scaling back on their health. I know it’s crazy, but some people are passing up on their annual checkups. Some insurance companies are charging higher premiums and people basically forget about their health. Recently I spoke with a Dentists office who said that fewer patients were calling up and scheduling appointments so they need to step up their marketing.
There are a few ways to get in front of the camera. First is the monologue. The camera focuses on the doctor and the doctor introduces him/herself to the audience. She/he then introduces his/her practice, office and staff. Then the doctor speaks about the services his/her office offers. Then there is preparation before procedures, and care after the procedures. In addition, to the monologue, there is also the “interview” as well as the “procedure.” With these three types of videos, you can certainly push out 52 videos in a year. Then next year – repeat the process. I guarantee it is all worth it!
There is a logical step to producing videos for anyone in any profession. If you need help thinking about, creating, directing and / or producing a video for your practice or profession, please email me at raphis@salemglobal.com, give me a call at 212-993-5828 or check out our site, www.SalemGlobal.com. Though SalemGlobal will work with any particular practice, we know that we can help dentists, orthodontists, lasik eye doctors, dermatologists, podiatrists and plastic surgeons. Next week we will talk about videos for the legal profession.
The 2 Minute Blockbuster
Posted by Edan Shertzer on Dec 9, 2008
According to Wikipedia, at $300,000,000, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is the most expensive movie ever made. (Interestingly, when adjusted for inflation, 1963′s Cleopatra gives Pirates a run for its money at a gargantuan $290,000,000.) The swashbuckling adventure tale clocks in at 168 minutes, meaning each minute of film is worth approximately $1.8 million. Now that’s a whole lot of booty, even for a gang of rum-chugging pirates.
For comparison purposes, consider the now infamous “I Got a Crush on Obama” video, which cost about $2,000 to produce, but continues to draw millions of views on Youtube. (More than 12,309,880 views, last we checked.) And though its catchy song and peppy mise-en-scene will soon be the stuff of obscure pop culture history, one cannot help but marvel at how this relatively simple video managed to attract so many eyeballs in such a brief period.
The lesson: you don’t have to spend $300,000,000 on a video to make it successful. Really, you don’t even have to spend $2,000. All you need is a good idea, a reliable digital camera, some editing software, and a little bit of knowledge of how to optimize your video for various vendors and search engines.
Antezeta does a good job of summarizing a few useful optimization methods. (See especially their 8 Top Tips for Video Search Engine Optimization.) Film it, edit it, optimize it — you never know, maybe you’ll have the next Internet blockbuster on your hands.
Experiences from the NY Xpo for Business 2008
Posted by Edan Shertzer on Nov 21, 2008
We had a blast at last Wednesday’s New York Xpo for Business. The people! The energy! The free swag! SalemGlobal’s booth kept busy from morning to the late afternoon with people who were eager to learn more about marketing and optimizing their websites. So many business cards, so little time….
Raphi’s seminar was a terrific success. A full house turned out to listen to him speak about how to “Make More Money this Year with Online Marketing.” His seminar was so successful, in fact, that he was bombarded with requests to make his PowerPoint slideshow available online, which he is, of course, happy to do. Just click here to redirect to the SalemGlobal homepage, where you can download the presentation as a pdf. You can also watch the video below and listen to Raphi dish some wisdom on SEO and optimizing your website.
Finally, congratulations are in order as well: they go out to Frank Manus of www.naa.cc; Valerie Mahoney of Live Your Life Travel; Gavin Sloane of Geneva Worldwide; Matthew Kiger of WCBS Radio; Ashraf Ezzeldin of the Egyptian General Consulate; and Valerie Delaportas of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. These are the lucky winners of the numerous raffles SalemGlobal held throughout the day. Enjoy your brand new 512 mb memory sticks — you earned it!
