Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Google Privacy, Google +1, Facebook “Like,” Caffeine And Working With The Homeless
Posted by DD on Mar 13, 2012
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day Everyone! Whether you are Irish or not, you should be incorporating “green” and “luck” and leprechauns into all of your content this week. Your website, your blog, your social media, articles and press releases. Oh – and then have a whiskey and Guinness to wash it all down!
Here is a short film about Google Privacy:

But truth be told, always Google +1 all of your own content and try to get your friends, family and colleagues to Facebook “Like” you. Here is a nifty picture I picked up on Facebook this week. See if it works for you:
As for Caffeine, we at the SalemGlobal NY HQ either love the stuff or don’t tough it. Where do you sit/stand?

And finally, what do you think about this marketing idea? I personally think it is terrible but maybe you think differently. Working With The Homeless at SXSW:

Obama OK. St. Louis Cardinals Win World Series, Snow Kidding, Halloween, Giants Win One: What your business can learn from being the underdog and surprise storms

I don’t know where you were on Saturday but I was at my window looking out and pinching myself at the same time. I just could not believe that I was actually seeing snow in October. As the temperature was dropping and the snow was falling, I then heard a loud sound coming from my next door neighbor. Seems like the snow was so wet and heavy that after gathering on the awning, the weight was just too much and it fell into the backyard. Seems like that wasn’t the only structure to fall down. It seems like in my old backyard (central park, NYC) over 1000 trees actually fell.
Crazy weather or not. Global warming or not. Whatever you want to say about glaciers and snowcaps melting, the fact is that I have never ever in my 40 years of life experienced trees falling down due to bad weather. Growing up in the Tundra of Long Island, we got plenty of snow. Every few years would be fun and games and sledding and ice-skating. And then I discovered skiing. But with all of that snow up inVermontwhere I became a black diamond skier, there were never trees that would fall down in backyards. So what can you do? Basically, be prepared.
Being prepared is all you can do. So if we are talking about your business, then the best thing to do is have a highly optimized search engine friendly website. Then the next thing you can do is purchase the best domain names out their for your business. Then you can build up on those domain names and get google and the other search engines to recognize you. Then social media, Interactive PR, youtube videos. Actually, I have a whole entire annual program that puts your business on the map. But the fact is that it comes down to being prepared.
Just a quick thing about Halloween. Did you get any candy? My kids did. And I benefited. Yum. Oh – and did you see googles pumpkin carving video? Here it is: Weird. I don’t see how many views: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPAa7BqgSbw Do you?
And finally – congrats to the 2011 Winners of the MLB World Series. TheSt. LouisCardinals. Oh – and President Barack Obama who after quitting smoking is a pretty healthy guy. And to the NY Giants for finally winning one for us New Yorkers. Good luck to the J-E-T-S next week as well.

Japan’s Nuclear Issues, Obama, US Launches Military Action Against Libya, Is No News Bad News? SES: What your business can learn from silence and social media
Posted by Salem Global on Mar 22, 2011
Our sympathies continue to go out to close to 10,000 dead as a result of last week’s tsunami off the coast of Japan. I also heard that another 12,000 are missing. That doesn’t sound good.
The fact that nuclear reactors are melting and sending radiation into the earth and air mean problems for everyone near the reactor, in Japan, close to Japan and around the world. My understanding of the situation is that all of these workers were trying to save the reactor because its not only worth billions of dollars but also generates billions of dollars every year. It probably saves the country billions in energy costs as well. Not to mention how the military uses nuclear plants is beyond me. Regardless, these are the stories you will not hear on the evening news. Various bloggers and pundits will give their opinions but no one really knows what’s going on except the government and the people on the ground. Good luck to all of us seeing how this will all fallout. We know what happened in Chernobyl 25 years later and its not pretty. Of course you have to go down the mountain to go up the next one. We as a world will globally understand more about earthquakes, tsunamis and their relationship to our environment after this tragedy.
And then there is Libya. Who knows what’s going on there? All of a sudden Obama wakes up one day and decides that enough is enough. Come on people. Why do we pick and choose who to pick on, who to deal with and when do we turn our cheeks?
Thanks to social media and the Internet we have a better understanding of what is going on behind the scenes. Now that everyone has a cellphone with a camera built in we can get news instantly.
So I ask the question; Is no news good news or bad news? Clearly if civilians and reporters (who skew the news anyway) can’t get to a scene, there is something missing.
SES – search engine strategies is the trade show for my industry. Internet marketing at its finest. Software, hardware, marketing companies. You name it, we are all in New York, NY this week at the Hilton Hotel at 1335 Avenue of the Americas. Wanna meet? Just email me and lets get together.
