9/11 Comes & Goes, Back To School, Work, NFL, US Open Djokovic beats Nadal: What your business can learn from year to year victory

I am a tennis player and have been for many years. I remember my mother dropping me off in the playroom at her tennis club while she played doubles with her friends. Little did I know that I would also enjoy the “POP” of the yellow ball coming off a perfect forehand and backhand years later. I remember my son picking up a racket and then saying “let’s go. you and me. let’s do this.” Of course he had no clue at the age of 5 and was stubborn and impatient and of course takes after his father. But then I started playing against the concrete wall, week after week, month after month, until my strokes began to improve. Practice makes perfect! Then I went to sleepaway camp and that’s when my game really started to get better. I played for my high school team (perhaps once?) and then life took over and there were suddenly no more players or courts. I then met an older gentleman who invited me to his game where he proceeded to kick my butt until after some practice and speed I edged over him. Last year, Rafa beat Djokovic out. This year the Jedi struck back: http://www.usopen.org/en_US/news/articles/2011-09-12/201109131315873854121.html
The year 2011 will soon come to a close. We will all be another year older. Our businesses will be more experienced and we need to strike now. My clients past and present recognize this. The Internet is here to stay and it is the most efficient form of advertising and promotion. I just heard on the radio that the only reason why the US postal system will survive will be because direct mail companies will pay for the opportunity to spam and junk mail us. There is something inherently wrong with an economy that is based on something people don’t like. Most junk mail ends up in the recycle bin or landfill… http://www.webpronews.com/post-office-email-web-2011-09 Maybe the USPS should’ve invested in some Internet startups…
I also hope you had a meaningful 9/11. It is really amazing that 10 years have gone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYpydtdlWxA). I think we are in a better place nowadays though I know the pessimists will be on my back about this one. They will say the world is in worse shape. I personally think that we learn form our mistakes and experiences. The world seems like a safer place to me because of the heightened security. Sure our freedoms have been stepped on, but that is the price you pay for security, safety, democracy and control. So life goes on and so does business. Now if we can get the economy back on track, we all might do a little bit better in the coming year.
