Google+ Harry Potter Is An Alcoholic, Caylee Anthony, OJ Simpson, Who Won Wimbledon, NY Mets Best Game Ever, Derek Jeter 3000: What your business can learn from the underdogs

So much going on this week. Kind of funny because I was thinking hardly anything happened. And then my friend and accountant Oren Adler (www.AdlerCoCpa.com ) posted on facebook that the only thing he can think of doing about his experience with Google+ was to share it on facebook. Good job Oren. That’s my job. Believe me. You do NOT want me doing your accounting work. Or as my friend who is an amateur comedian puts it… “hey. leave the comedy to the professionals.” (That’s what he does
(He doesn’t read this so no danger of any flack when I see him next.) Anyway. Have a look for yourself. http://www.google.com/+/demo/ Take the demo tour and you will see a whole bunch of nothing. Maybe they will get some marketshare. But probably not. Sort of like Bing getting into the game way too late after Yahoo and Google were already established at the top. But I agree with the initiative regardless. As an entrepreneur, if it makes more than $1.00 than I have spent on it then why not… if it makes money and doesn’t use up resources, go for it. Good luck google. Though with your billions I am really not worried about you.
I am also not worried about the New York Mets. Wow! Anyone see those back to back Grand Slam homeruns by Carlos Beltran and Jason Bay. I didn’t either. But I did read about it here: http://nysportslive.sportsblognet.com/2011/06/28/mets-beat-tigers-14-3-with-ny-hitting-two-grand-slams/ . Enjoy the story folks. That stuff doesn’t happen every day.
Another person I am not worried about is my friend Derek Jeter. Going after his 3000 hits. Good job Derek. Now don’t mess up your life like all of the other sports stars, celebs and politicians that have been in the news this year. Enjoy life and do the right thing. Keep on breaking records! http://nymag.com/daily/sports/2011/06/derek_jeter_3000th_hit_watch_a.html
And now on to people I DO worry about…
1) Harry Potter. AKA Daniel Radcliffe. Come on! Seriously? YOU have a drinking problem? Harry Potter? The star of every teenage girl fantasy? Try to get it together now. We all know you like to get naked in front of audiences when not battling he who shall not be named (Ok Voldemort HA! HA!) But try to drink some fruit juice and soda instead of alcohol. Wine or beer once in a while with dinner or with friends is fine. But don’t be like all those other self-abusing celebrities. http://www.newser.com/story/122576/daniel-radcliffe-why-i-had-to-quit-drinking.html And do NOT hang out with Brittany Spears or Lindsay Lohan. I am talking mano a mano (or mano y mano. there is some controversy over spelling). Oh. And don’t do drugs either!
2) All the famous tennis players who lost at Wimbledon. Rafael Nadal. Maria Sharapova. Roger Federer. You know who I am talking about. I don’t follow tennis as closely as I used to but I know who is on their way out and who is on their way in. Perhaps its the end of an era? (Hey – I still root for Jimmy Connors and Jon McEnroe.) http://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/scores/index.html
3) The person I am most worried about is Caylee Anthony. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/caylee-anthony/ Maybe she killed her daughter. Maybe she didn’t. And maybe OJ Simpson killed his wife. And maybe he didn’t. But OJ then became the butt of many jokes and even was put in the spotlight by Howard Stern as being the guy who got away with it. There are also a bunch of South Park, Saturday Night Live and maybe even In Living Color Sketches that don’t put him in the best light. Good luck Caylee. You are going to need it. May your daughter rest in peace.
So if the Mets can do it, as well as some unknown tennis players as well as google, I think we all have a chance at doing better whether it’s personally or in business. I will stick to the business part of things. Want to know more about how to market your business on the Internet? Call Raphi Salem at 212-222-3292 or email him at info@salemglobal.com for more info.
