Successories’ Top Ten Tips for Communicating and Marketing an Employee Recognition Program
Posted by Salem Global on Feb 8, 2012
Successories.com, the leader in employee motivation and employee recognition, has released their top ten tips for communicating and marketing an employee recognition program.
“Designing and deploying a recognition program is an accomplishment, but the true ‘staying power’ of the program is linked to a successful communications and marketing strategy,” says Warren Struhl, CEO of Successories.
Business leaders consistently list being able to communicate effectively as a major key to success. And industrial psychologists have documented that effective communication is the lifeblood of good relationships with business associates, customers, vendors and investors. Yet, the American Management Association reports that 90% of all problems in an organization is a direct result of poor communication. Poor communication can doom an employee recognition program.
Struhl emphasizes these ten tips when creating your program’s marketing plan:
- Use multi-media and social media. Review the communication channels that are available to you and incorporate them into your plan.
- Leverage word-of-mouth communication. Create the “words” for management and your leaders/leadership teams to use to talk-up your program.
- Encourage your management and leadership to “Walk the Talk.” Engage your leaders as your advocates.
- Use logo merchandise to extend the reach of your message. Use your program’s logo or image on the promotional items your recipients receive and they will help promote the program.
- Use focus groups to hone your product and message. Ask for feedback! This is crucial for spreading the program by word-of-mouth and champions buy-in from the participants.
- Develop a team of champions to help you carry the message of your program to their work groups.
- Communicate with a crescendo. Design your communications plan to create excitement, and reach a peak, usually culminating with a yearly party or awards ceremony.
- Variety is the spice of marketing. So remember to vary your marketing approach to keep your message fresh.
- Get the winners out in front and use their testimonials to help communicate the value of your program.
- Add to goals. Link your program to tangible business results.
